How to maintain your PMP or other valuable hard earned Certification Credentials

Hurray!! Congratulations, you achieved your valuable PMI credentials. Unlike other certifications you NEED NOT to RE-TAKE the exam!! Yes that’s great!! But you need to keep renewing your certification. PMI’s Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) program provides guideline and allows you to keep your certification. You need to participate in career or professional development activities like networking, or continuous learning to keep your certification.

1. PDU Requirements:

Following table shows required PDUs for type of certification

CAPMCCR exception, retake exam every 5 years
PMP60 PDUs for every 3 years
PgMP60 PDUs for every 3 years
PMI-SP30 PDUs for every 3 years
RMP30 PDUs for every 3 years

2. What is PDU?

PDU stands for Professional Development Units, required to retain your certification. Every hour of study or learning or participation provides you with ONE (1) PDU. That means to earn 60 PDUs you need to study 60 hour course or qualified volunteer work.

3. New Categories to claim PDUs: (After March 1, 2011)

You can report PDUs is 6 Categories

  • Courses offered by PMI R.E.P: CertSchool is REP. You can earn all 60 PDUs from this category.
  • Continuing Education; Ex: university or college academic courses. You can earn all 60 PDUs from this category.
  • Self-Directed Learning; Max 30 PDUs from this category alone

    You can claim Max of 45 PDUs from following 3 categories all together.
  • Creating New Project Management Knowledge
  • Volunteer Service
  • Working as a Professional in Project Management

4. Where an how to claim PDUs?

You can claim PDUs using Continuing Certification Requirements System. You can access new CCRS System using following link https://ccrs.pmi.org/
